Flipflops are a gateway shoe. They start with the flipflops and say, "I can handle it, it's cheap footwear, I just do it to relax."
Then they start on the sneakers, and then it's a slingback pump, maybe with some friends, "just to be social." Before you know it, they're doing chunky three-inch platform pumps six times a week and turning tricks (sit up, roll over, stay!) on the street to support their habits.
It's sad -- we can't let Banjo become another tragic statistic!
